Principal Consultant

Dr. Gu is a Principal Consultant at PowerGEM primarily responsible for the customized development of the PowerGEM PROBE software for different market applications. He has assisted PJM in developing PROBE-based applications for DA market, RAC process, Real-time LMP Pricing and post-market Perfect Dispatch analysis. Dr. Gu has provided consulting services to clients performing various market simulations or operational studies, including real-time dispatching and congestion control studies, and market impact studies of the expansion of Demand Side Response programs and the penetration of Electric Vehicles. He also assisted PJM to design the mitigation function for the RAC process.

Prior to joining PowerGEM, Dr. Gu was with PJM for six years. His first three years was with the System Operation Division, where he helped develop the real-time voltage stability analysis and control abilities and network interchange forecast function. He later moved to the Market Division as a senior engineer, where he led the development of the Perfect Dispatch application, a process that helped PJM achieve multi-million dollar savings for its customers by establishing a real-time dispatch evaluation and study process. Dr. Gu was an instrumental technical expert in the implementation of the Marginal Loss and Day-ahead Supplementary Reserve Market. He was also responsible for the engineering support of the Day-ahead market software.

Dr. Gu holds a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) from Kansas State University. He is the author of a number of technical publications in the area of power system transmission and power markets. Dr. Gu is a Member of IEEE.
